Function & construction

The recorded Experience trickle is 1 per second. Builder access and the available research depend on the civilization. Its functions support both the army and settlement: Padre recovery helps restore the hero, while repair can keep important structures operating after an attack.

Placement & timing

Place the Cathedral where its repair radius can protect valuable buildings and where the structure itself is safe. Use the Padre and Spy options when they support the mission or current army, and account for passive Experience as an additional benefit rather than the only reason to build it.

Mexican and Peruvian support building

The Cathedral is a Commerce Age support structure for Mexicans and Peruvians in Definitive Edition. It costs 200 Wood and 200 Coin, takes 30 seconds to build and is limited to one. The building has 5,000 hit points and 34 line of sight. It generates one Experience per second, trains Spies, can retrain the Padre, researches town and unique technologies and repairs nearby buildings. These services make it useful for maintaining a settlement and supporting a civilization-specific army: the Padre can return after a loss, while repair can restore nearby structures damaged during a raid. Place the Cathedral close enough to the buildings that may need repair, but keep it protected from siege. Its passive Experience is a continuing benefit, but the building’s strongest reason to exist is access to its special roster and support functions. Use the Cathedral technology panel to check which upgrades are available for the chosen civilization. The Mexicans and Peruvians have different town and unique research, so do not assume the same options appear for both. Repair and Padre retraining can be especially useful during a sustained defense, while Spies provide a separate utility role.

Repair and Padre recovery

Place the Cathedral near buildings that might need repairs during a siege, while keeping it out of direct artillery range when possible. Padre retraining and repair can help sustain a defense over several attacks, and the Experience trickle continues while the structure survives.

Building investment

Its 200 Wood and 200 Coin price competes with early production, so construct the Cathedral when passive Experience, Padre retraining, Spy training or repair will support the plan over time. Do not build it solely for a brief encounter.

Civilization-specific research

Mexican and Peruvian technology lists differ. Inspect the Cathedral’s available researches for the active civilization, and prioritize upgrades that support units already being trained.

Repair timing

Repair nearby structures after an attack has ended and when the Cathedral is not under immediate threat. Keeping key buildings operational can protect the economy, while the Cathedral’s own 5,000 hit points make it a durable support point.

Protecting unique services

The Cathedral is limited to one building, so defend its repair and training functions as part of the settlement. Its Spies and Padre options serve different needs; choose based on the current mission or army.

Mexican and Peruvian support functions

The Cathedral is a support building for Mexicans and Peruvians. It retrains the Padre, trains Spies, researches town and unique technologies, repairs nearby buildings and automatically gathers one Experience per second in the recorded profile. Settlers and their counterparts, Padres or Church Wagons can construct it. These functions support both the army and settlement: Padre recovery restores a hero, while repair can keep important structures operating after an attack.

Placement and research choices

A Cathedral costs 200 Wood and 200 Coin, takes about 30 seconds to build and is limited to one. Place it where the repair radius can protect valuable buildings, but keep the structure safe from raids. Use Spy production when the opponent has valuable Heroes or Mercenaries, and choose unique technologies that support the current army. Passive Experience is an additional benefit rather than a reason to expose the building. Protect the Cathedral so its repair, retraining and research access remain available.
