Effect

The bonus applies only while Villagers collect Wood from the listed sources; it does not speed construction or increase the amount stored in a tree. Later upgrades in this line build on the same gathering role.

Research condition

European and Federal American civilizations; Exploration Age; researched at the Market; 100 Food; 20-second research time; Villager Wood gathering from Trees and Mango Groves +10%.

Research decision

Research when several Villagers will keep chopping to fund houses, production buildings or military units. If the next priority is an immediate army or age-up, wait until the expected Wood demand can repay the investment.

A European Wood-gathering upgrade

Gang Saw is an Exploration Age Market technology for Europeans and Federal Americans. It costs 100 Food, takes 20 seconds and increases Villager gathering from trees and Mango Groves by 10%. Log Flume is the next upgrade. It does not improve other resources.

Build a sustained Wood economy

Research early enough to benefit from a large workforce gathering Wood. If trees are distant or workers will soon move elsewhere, the return falls. Gang Saw and Log Flume compete with unit production and aging, so plan the line around how long Wood will remain important.

Research time differs in older versions

Gang Saw takes 20 seconds to research in the current Definitive Edition profile. Before update 13.9057, its research time was 30 seconds. Both profiles use the same listed 100-Food cost and +10% Wood gathering bonus from Trees and Mango Groves. Older build orders may therefore budget a longer wait at the Market; use the current timing when planning a Wood upgrade alongside early unit production.
