Dr. Raya Underhill, the FBC's head researcher of the Mold, has gone missing — and her work matters more than ever with Manhattan the way it is. New Growth is a full side-quest loop across The Park and the Oldest House, following her trail through her office, her apartment, and a sewer lab, before a fight with her escaped test subjects. It also opens the rest of The Park's quest chain: finishing this quest (or starting it) leads directly into Carbon Copy, and both are required for the Budding Mycologist trophy.

How to Start

Head to The Park > FBC Base, on the rooftop. There are two ways to trigger the quest:

  1. Finish the Zoe's Briefing side quest first — New Growth then starts automatically.
  2. If Zoe's Briefing is not done, talk directly to the female soldier standing on the FBC Base roof.

Getting onto the roof itself takes a little work: either bring electricity to power the elevator up, or go through the sewers in the north-east of The Park, emerge on the street east of the FBC Base, and jump onto the roof from there.

Walkthrough

1. Ask Around About Underhill

Ask the soldier standing next to the FBC Base fast travel door in The Park about Underhill — the guard Busken is also worth questioning, and other soldiers around the base have their own observations. This leg is about gathering leads on where she was last seen.

2. Investigate Underhill's Last Known Location

Follow the leads to the last place she was spotted and search the area for traces of where she went next.

3. Investigate Underhill's Office in Central Executive

Her trail leads out of The Park entirely: check her office in Central Executive, inside the Oldest House, behind the Level 6 clearance door. The office holds clues about what she was working on before she vanished.

4. Search Underhill's Apartment

Back in The Park, search her apartment. She will be found in the kitchen area.

5. Collect the Equipment and Find the Test Subjects at the Lab

Underhill's lab sits in the sewers. Collect her equipment and track down the test subjects she has been working with. One useful community tip: if the lab door is locked after meeting her, the key sits on the table right next to her, saving a long detour.

6. Track Down and Defeat the Test Subjects

Three Mold specimens have to be tracked down and destroyed. Bring anti-Mold preparation — the Cleansing Rush talent halves Mold ailment duration.

7. Return to Underhill

Return and talk to Dr. Underhill to close out the quest. The final conversation presents the choice.

The Ending Choice (and Why It's Safe)

The closing conversation asks what Dylan should do with the doctor:

  • Report her to the FBC — hand the rogue researcher back to the Bureau.
  • Let her escape — look the other way entirely.
  • Let her escape but keep the samples — she goes free, her experiments do not.

There is no real consequence to this choice. Rewards are identical no matter what is picked, and nothing downstream changes — the only difference is a later phone call with Zoe, who reacts to whatever Dylan decided. Pick whichever option fits the player's Dylan and move on. A full option-by-option breakdown of this choice is also covered on the Underhill choice page.

Rewards

New Growth pays out regardless of the ending choice:

  • Brass Dusters — an artifact that makes combat abilities deal +50% damage but removes their Falter effects. It is a genuine build decision rather than a stat stick, trading the stun-and-execute loop for raw ability damage.
  • A Zone Level increase for The Park — feeding the same progression as fast travel doors and World Feats.
  • Trophy progress — New Growth plus the Carbon Copy questline together unlock the Budding Mycologist trophy.
