Map overview
Inferno’s routes bring players through constrained approaches where utility and timing can change how safely a team moves. Terrorists can pressure A or B, while Counter-Terrorists must watch the approaches and decide when to reinforce a site. A narrow route can limit how many players enter at once, making coordination and spacing important.
Callouts including Banana, Mid, Apartments, Arch, Library and the sites let teammates share positions quickly. A callout should identify what the player actually sees: an opponent’s position, a cleared route or a likely rotation. This helps prevent teammates from treating partial information as proof that an entire area is safe.
A & B approaches
The A site is connected to approaches through Mid and Apartments, with routes around Arch and Library shaping how players enter or retake. Attackers must clear the site before planting the C4 Explosive and decide which positions teammates will watch. Defenders can hold the approach or reposition when the attack commits elsewhere.
Banana is a key route toward B. Controlling it gives a team options for a B attack or forces defenders to spend time contesting the approach. A plant changes the defenders’ objective: Counter-Terrorists must clear the site and reach the bomb before detonation, while Terrorists protect the plant.
Utility & team movement
Smoke can block long sightlines along a route, allowing a team to cross or isolate a defender. Fire utility can discourage a player from holding a narrow position, while a Flashbang may help teammates take space. Utility has limited availability and should be coordinated so that players do not all spend it on the same moment.
Inferno’s constrained approaches reward deliberate spacing. A teammate who enters first can draw attention, but another player needs to be positioned to trade if that entry is eliminated. Defenders also communicate before rotating, since leaving one route unattended can create a path for the attackers.
CS2 applicability & map pool
This page covers Inferno’s Counter-Strike 2 Bomb Defusal layout. Map-pool status is a dated matchmaking detail rather than an intrinsic feature of the map; see Map Rotations for update history. Historical map versions are not mixed into CS2-specific pool claims.
C4 recovery and Pit boost correction (August 21, 2024)
The August 21, 2024 Inferno update fixed locations where the C4 could become stuck and removed a boost spot in Pit by A site. The first change improves recovery of the dropped objective device in affected geometry. The second removes a specific player boost position; the note does not name the exact surface or state a broader change to Pit access. Neither item changes Inferno’s bomb sites or round objective.
Banana, Coffins, Church and B site
Banana is the long approach from T-side toward Bombsite B. Its narrow corridor makes the named parts of the route important: Top Banana, the car/barrels area and the entrance toward B describe different points where players may be holding or crossing. A call that an opponent is “Banana” does not by itself establish whether they are near T side or close to the site. At B, Coffins, Dark and the CT-side entrance mark positions around the plant area; Church and Ruins sit behind/along the retake side. The source gallery labels views from Banana, CT and Dark, as well as Church from CT Spawn and B from Coffins, confirming how those callouts relate to the site.
The map’s CS2 updates have changed visibility and collision around these spaces. On July 28, 2025, Church windows above Coffins were opened, the garden path was narrowed near its entrance and widened by Coffins, and the first B-site box was reshaped. On March 31, 2025, Banana was adjusted to more closely match its earlier Global Offensive dimensions, while backgrounds and some props were simplified. These are CS2 geometry and readability notes with explicit dates; they do not establish a different objective or weapon behavior.
Mid, Alt Mid, Apartments and A site
Mid links the central T-side area to CT-side routes and the approaches toward A. Alt Mid provides a separate passage connected through Underpass and the T Spawn side, while Apartments—including Boiler and the corridor—lead toward the A-side approaches. Arch and Library sit along the CT approach to A; Pit, Balcony, Quad and Graveyard are callouts around the site that distinguish the outer approach, elevated entry and defensive positions. Specify whether an opponent was seen at Apartments, Boiler, Alt Mid, Arch or Library instead of using the broad callout “A,” because these locations imply different directions of travel and different rotation times.
Inferno’s two sites represent two separate gas-pipeline objectives in the map description. The diagonal arrangement places the T and CT spawns on opposite corners, with each site at another corner. Banana’s connection toward B and Apartments/Mid routes toward A make information and rotations central to site defense. Fire utility can temporarily deny narrow ground; smoke and flash utility can help a team cross or challenge a position, but they do not confirm that the far side is clear.
Recent Counter-Strike 2 map changes
Inferno has received multiple dated CS2 readability and geometry changes. The October 22, 2025 update adjusted the top of Quad and the area under Balcony to improve visibility. The November 12, 2025 update fixed a skybox that had blocked grenades. On March 4, 2026, the A-site Balcony was extended, Graveyard was closed to public access, and clipping was adjusted at a small window beside Second Mid Balcony; the radar image was updated the following day.
These patch records matter when using older callouts or remembered lineups: a position can keep its name while its accessible geometry or grenade path changes. The current entry describes the CS2 map and dates the recorded changes instead of blending them with earlier versions. Check Map Rotations for matchmaking selection; pool status and physical layout are separate facts.
September 27, 2023 Counter-Strike 2 launch update
A new bell was added to Inferno in the September 27, 2023 CS2 launch update. The map gained an additional ambient sound source, which contributes to the environment’s audio rather than acting as a gameplay signal or objective cue.
Inferno in the Limited Test modes
The August 31, 2023 CS2 Limited Test update added Inferno to all game modes then available in the test. This records broad test-build availability on that date; it does not assert that Inferno remains in every present-day queue or replaces the map’s distinct layouts and objectives.
The same patch listed general bug fixes and tweaks across shipped maps without enumerating their locations. See Map Rotations for dated availability records and distinguish a mode-pool update from a map-layout change.
Limited Test fixes (September 1, 2023)
The September 1, 2023 Counter-Strike 2 Limited Test notes listed various bug fixes and tweaks for Inferno without naming affected locations or geometry. The record is therefore a dated map-maintenance note, not evidence for a new route or layout change.
Map fixes and tweaks (September 5, 2023)
The September 5, 2023 patch lists various bug fixes and tweaks for Inferno. No particular bombsite, route, prop or collision issue is identified in this entry. This is a dated maintenance note and cannot establish which player route or strategy changed.
Overhang and collision readability changes (April 25, 2024)
The April 25, 2024 Inferno revision removed an overhanging building section at top mid and overhangs at the bottom of Banana. The update also made map adjustments intended to improve player collision and readability. These are geometry and navigation refinements to named areas: top mid is a central connector, while Banana is the long approach toward the B site. The patch does not provide coordinates, a new route diagram or a callout-by-callout list, so it should not be used to claim that a specific grenade lineup or angle was added.
Weapon fall-through spot fixed (April 26, 2024)
The April 26, 2024 CS2 update fixed a spot on Inferno where weapons could fall through the world. Unlike the Dust II note from the same release, the Inferno bullet does not name a site, lane or landmark. It establishes only that a map location could fail to retain weapons and that the spot was corrected. No specific route, dropped-weapon recovery tactic or collision coordinate can be derived from the published description.
The correction concerns world geometry and item placement on the map. It does not describe a weapon-stat change, a new pickup rule or a change to Inferno's objective. Keep it as a dated map-maintenance detail and use the map's named areas for general navigation rather than assigning the fix to an undocumented location.
