Role & availability
The FAMAS is purchased by Counter-Terrorists from the Rifles category. It occupies a different budget and handling role from the team’s M4A4 and M4A1-S. A FAMAS purchase can be part of a coordinated lower-cost buy, but the player should weigh it against armor, a kit and grenades rather than treating the weapon price as the entire round cost.
The rifle can be picked up from the ground by either team. A recovered weapon can change the equipment available to the team and may be worth carrying into a later round if it can be kept. The player can also drop it for a teammate when the team’s weapons or money plans call for a different distribution.
Firing modes & control
The FAMAS supports automatic fire and a three-round burst mode. Automatic fire allows sustained pressure, while burst mode sends a short group of shots with one trigger action. The burst can be useful for a controlled attempt at range, but it does not guarantee a hit; aim, distance, movement and recoil still matter.
Repeated automatic shots create recoil that the player must manage. Fire in controlled bursts when accuracy matters, and use a longer spray only when the engagement and cover make it reasonable. Settle before firing at distance because movement reduces weapon accuracy. Switching fire modes changes how shots are delivered, not the rifle’s role as a primary weapon.
When it fits a buy
The FAMAS is a Counter-Terrorist option for a round where the team wants rifles but cannot or does not choose the most expensive rifle setup. It can help hold an angle or support a teammate’s site defense. A player should still communicate which lane they cover, since a rifle’s value depends on crossfire and timely rotations as much as on its firing mode.
A Smoke Grenade can block a sightline while the player repositions, and a Flashbang can help contest a peek. The M4A4 and M4A1-S are the other main Counter-Terrorist rifle choices. Armor and team spending are covered by Kevlar + Helmet and Economy.
CS2 applicability
This entry covers the FAMAS as a CS2 Counter-Terrorist rifle with automatic and three-round burst modes. Values from earlier Counter-Strike releases are not carried forward. Exact current price, magazine and damage values await a dated CS2 source audit.
Burst accuracy and mode timing
The FAMAS has a deliberate distinction between its firing modes. Burst mode has better first-shot accuracy while the player is stationary, with little recoil during the three-shot sequence; automatic mode has a slightly lower first-shot accuracy but allows faster continued trigger decisions. A single burst that places a headshot and a torso hit can be lethal under the described damage rules, but moving targets make that combination difficult. Aim around the upper torso when reliability matters more than a headshot attempt.
The burst setting delays the next trigger pull, which makes it harder to respond to a second opponent immediately. Automatic fire is better when several close threats may appear; burst mode suits a patient longer-range angle. The click made when changing modes is audible to all players, so select the mode before contact when possible.
A January 28, 2025 CS2 update improved FAMAS accuracy and reduced its price to $1,950. An April 20, 2026 update fixed a bug that had removed the delay between burst-fire bullets. Keep these dates with the CS2 entry; Global Offensive balance changes are earlier-edition history and do not replace the current burst behavior.
September 27, 2023 Counter-Strike 2 launch update
A September 27, 2023 CS2 fix corrected the FAMAS reloading too early. The note identifies a reload-timing bug but gives no duration or new ammunition rule. It should be read as a correction to the rifle’s reload animation/action synchronization, not as a balance change to magazine size or fire rate.
Fire sound observation (June 6, 2023)
The June 6, 2023 patch page lists replacement of the FAMAS fire sound effect as an undocumented change. It records a sound-asset change only; no firing rate, damage, recoil, ammunition or other weapon statistic is stated to have changed.
Reload-event timing (June 8, 2023)
The June 8, 2023 Counter-Strike 2 Limited Test update adjusted the FAMAS reload event to match the moment the magazine was fully inserted. This is a dated animation-event alignment note; it does not specify a new reload duration or alter the rifle’s ammunition capacity.
