A villager refused to put down his aging, useless hound and looked after it despite all sense.
Once provisions dwindled, his family forced him to abandon the dog in the forest; returning home, he was stricken mortally ill with grief and died within a moon.
The very night he died the hound came back no longer as a dog but as a hellish beast with glowing red eyes and smoking fur, and it tore apart every villager without exception.
Sated, it settled onto its master's burial mound and died beside him.
