Xanthe's Orders
Xanthe writes that Knyaz Skender mistook Vale Sangora's wealth for the silver veins under the mountains,
when far greater riches — crumbling memories of a distant past — lie waiting.
She claims to hear murmurs rising from beneath rubble and peat,
and directs her reader to claw at the earth there until its secrets surface, then carry them back to her.
Though the treasures come from dead hands, she warns against feeling safe:
wit and drawn swords are required, lest the ancient tombs become the diggers' own graves.
