Overview

Forward builders can support production or defenses near battle, but the route and work site are exposed.

Plan and execution

Scout and escort forward Villagers, preserve an exit, and build behind the army screen. A Watch Tower or military building can help secure the site, but use only the workers the task requires.

Risks and adaptation

Cavalry or ranged fire can trap builders. Abandon unsafe construction rather than losing several Villagers. Send builders with enough escort to cover the return path, and stop construction if the enemy can surround the site. A completed building matters only if workers and reinforcements can reach it.

Decision example

Builders sent to a tower, Castle, or forward base should travel behind an army that has already checked the route. Give them a place to retreat and keep resources for the construction so they do not wait on exposed ground. If the opponent moves to contest, decide whether the nearly completed structure is worth defending or whether the workers should leave. Losing several Villagers can cost more than abandoning a forward site and rebuilding from safer ground.
