The Rebellion of Melus (HD Edition) begins with Michael and a tiny escort before a political turn forces a rapid escape from Bari. Preserve the hero, use allied healing, and keep the route clear before the betrayal unfolds.
Plan and execution
Use the higher ground to engage isolated rebels instead of pulling the whole group into a large camp. Let Michael absorb attention only when his health remains safe; his gradual recovery makes him a better lure than the Throwing Axemen, who do not heal. After reaching the Lombard village, use its Monk to restore the force before retracing the route. When the mission grants Tagmata and Varangian Guards for the Brindisi journey, keep the larger group together and return to Bari prepared to leave. Once the rebellion breaks out, take the second gate northwest rather than returning toward the beach, and use the route that avoids the strongest pursuit.
Risks and adaptation
The starting force is small and losses are hard to replace. Do not let Michael tank several attackers at once or separate the Throwing Axemen from protection. Heal before leaving the village and identify the escape gate before the revolt begins so the transition does not catch the army in a dead end.
