Overview

Trebuchets pressure defenses at range but need deployment time and protection.

Plan and execution

Scout the route, bring an escort, focus one important target, and cover deployment and repair. Use vision instead of firing blindly.

Risks and adaptation

They retreat slowly and can fall to cavalry or counter-siege. Keep them screened and pull back if that screen breaks. Bring the escort into position before unpacking and give the engines a route back toward the army. Recheck the target when the defender moves instead of forcing shots from an exposed position.

Decision example

Trebuchets become available only after the Imperial transition, so choose their first target while advancing. Reserve the wood and gold, protect the Castle that makes them, and move a screen toward the firing position before unpacking. If the opponent has Bombard Cannons or fast cavalry, keep the engines farther behind the line and use the army to threaten a dive. Two protected Trebuchets can force a response; extra engines without map control are easier to lose.
