Vortigern is a one-hour defense where the Wonder must survive while gold is initially scarce on higher difficulties. The Saxons and timed Foederati waves help hold the line while you establish the economy needed to reinforce them.
Plan and execution
Use the opening to stabilize the Wonder’s defenses and begin a gold economy as soon as workers can move safely. Let the Saxon force absorb early attacks while you build the structures needed to train your own units. Track the Foederati recruitment intervals and keep their arrivals near the threatened approach. Add ranged units and siege counters as gold income recovers, and rotate the defense between the Wonder and the routes enemies use to reach it.
Risks and adaptation
On Moderate and Hard, negative starting gold can prevent immediate military production, so do not queue units you cannot afford. The defense lasts the full hour; spend resources steadily and avoid sending the army far enough away that the Wonder is exposed.
