Chinese Mercenary Army

The Chinese Mercenary Army is a campaign-specific Industrial Age Consulate force in Act II: China. It consists of 24 Rattan Shields and eight Repentant Monks. It is documented as a scenario force, so its roster should not be treated as a standard Consulate option in ordinary multiplayer matches.

Role, availability & values

In the campaign profile, ordering it at the Consulate requires the Chinese Mercenaries alliance and the Industrial Age. It takes 60 seconds, costs 1,600 Export, is listed as 24 population and grants 160 experience. The force combines a large body of Rattan Shields with Repentant Monks; those monks are part of this named shipment, not additional Rattan Shields. Scenario rules can govern whether the option is available, so use the campaign mission’s displayed controls as the final guide.

Matchup & timing

In Act II: China, consider the army when the mission allows the Chinese Mercenaries option and the objective calls for a sizeable reinforcement. Its long order time means it should be requested before the force is needed. Keep the Rattan Shields together with the rest of the mission army and protect the group from counters that can exploit its approach. Do not plan a standard-versus build around this campaign-only choice.

Campaign availability is a key rule

Although the entry is grouped with Consulate armies, the Wiki identifies the Chinese Mercenary Army as campaign-only in Act II: China. This distinction matters: the entry explains a named scenario roster, not a universally available ladder choice. A mission can control its availability and surrounding economy. If the army is absent from a normal match, that is consistent with its documented campaign restriction.

A large mixed reinforcement

The listed force brings 24 Rattan Shields and eight Repentant Monks, with a 60-second order and a 24-population cost. Its two unit groups have different jobs, so protect the monks and avoid letting the formation arrive in separate pieces. Reserve population before ordering and account for the travel from the Consulate to the objective. The army is strongest when it reinforces an existing force that can cover its weaknesses.

Campaign-only roster

Chinese Mercenary Army is available only to the Chinese in Act II: China after selecting Chinese Mercenaries at the Consulate and reaching the Industrial Age. The company costs 1,600 Export, takes 60 seconds and uses 24 population. It contains 24 Rattan Shields and eight Repentant Monks; this composition should not be listed as an ordinary multiplayer Consulate option.

Large scenario reinforcement

The 32 delivered units form a substantial campaign group. Give them time to arrive before a timed objective and coordinate their movement with the mission’s other forces. Because this is scenario content, its availability depends on the campaign setup; use the ordinary Chinese Consulate roster for standard skirmish planning.
