Coffee Trade

Coffee Trade is a Commerce Age Dutch Church technology unlocked after sending the Religious Freedom Home City Card. It raises the Bank build limit by two, but reduces Bank hit points by 20% under the current rule. This is an economic capacity trade-off that makes the newly permitted Banks more important to protect.

Effect & research conditions

The research takes 15 seconds; the source lists no resource cost. The technology increases the number of Banks the Dutch may build by two and reduces the hit points of each Bank by 20%. Before patch 15.30007, its penalty instead reduced military-unit speed by 10%. Keep the version distinction clear: the current effect is Bank durability, not a movement penalty to the army.

Research condition

Dutch; Commerce Age; Church; Religious Freedom Home City Card sent; 15 seconds; no resource cost listed; Bank build limit +2 and Bank hit points -20%. Before patch 15.30007, the penalty was military-unit speed -10%.

When to research

Use it when the Dutch economy can afford additional Banks and the map position allows those buildings to be defended. More Banks expand passive Coin capacity, while lower hit points make each one easier to destroy. If the opponent can reach the economic core, protect the sites before relying on their income; the card prerequisite also means the technology cannot be treated as an unconditional opening upgrade.

The prerequisite is a Home City Card

Coffee Trade becomes available after the Religious Freedom card is sent. The research is a Church choice, so it is distinct from ordinary Bank construction or a Market gathering upgrade. Plan the card and building access as part of the Dutch economy rather than expecting the button at the start of every match.

The penalty changed in a later update

The current version reduces Bank hit points by 20%. Earlier rules instead slowed military units by 10%; patch 15.30007 changed the drawback. Use the current Bank penalty for present-day planning and retain the movement effect only when describing the earlier version.
