José de San Martín

José de San Martín was the German Argentina Revolution leader option in The WarChiefs and The Asian Dynasties. In those releases, choosing him sent six Mortars and automatically upgraded them to Imperial Howitzers; this reward does not describe the separate Argentina Revolution introduced in Definitive Edition.

APPLIES TO The WarChiefs (2006) and The Asian Dynasties (2007); removed in Definitive Edition

Version & availability

The older leader choice turns the Revolution's military reward toward long-range siege. Six Mortars arrive at the Home City shipment point and receive the Imperial Howitzer upgrade. The effect does not upgrade every unit in the army, and the delivered artillery still needs population, a safe route and an infantry screen to reach a fortified target.

Revolution bonus

Use the older San Martín option when the game version supports it and the match has buildings or fortified positions that Imperial Howitzers can attack. Protect the guns from mobile units and avoid following this leader plan in Definitive Edition, whose Argentina Revolution is a different system.

The WarChiefs and Asian Dynasties reward

In The WarChiefs and The Asian Dynasties, the German Argentina Revolution offered José de San Martín as a leader choice. His reward sent six Mortars to the Home City shipment point and automatically upgraded Mortars to Imperial Howitzers. This created an artillery-centered Revolution plan rather than a broad upgrade to all troops. Leave population for the delivery and screen the guns while they move toward a target.

Do not transfer the old reward to Definitive Edition

Definitive Edition introduced a distinct Argentina Revolution, so the older leader selection and six-Mortar reward should not be applied to its rules. Check the release before using a guide or comparing Revolution options. In versions where San Martín is available, choose him for a siege objective and make sure the army can protect the slow artillery; in Definitive Edition, use the actual Argentina Revolution roster and effects instead.
