Role, availability & values

The unit has 260 hit points, moves at 4.0 speed and has 20% ranged resistance. It occupies one population, costs 190 Influence and takes 38 seconds to train. Its hand, ranged and siege attacks each deal 36 damage; it has a 1.5× bonus against Mercenary and MercType2 classes.

Matchup & timing

Use Maigadi when the opponent’s mercenary force makes its bonus valuable or when the army needs a unit that can contribute at multiple ranges. Protect it from units that counter Heavy Infantry, and budget Influence for other Hausa options as well.

Hausa Palace infantry and matchup

Maigadi is Hausa Heavy Infantry available in the Commerce Age at the Palace. It costs 190 Influence, uses one population and takes 38 seconds to train. The unit has 260 hit points, 20% ranged resistance, speed 4.0 and line of sight 28. Its hand attack deals 36 damage every 1.5 seconds; the ranged attack also deals 36 damage at range 14 every three seconds, and the siege attack deals 36 at range six. The ranged shot receives a 1.5× multiplier against Mercenaries and MercType2 units. This makes Maigadi a flexible unit against mercenary forces, with attacks that let it contribute at several distances. It is not a reason to ignore its Heavy Infantry counters, and its 190-Influence cost is substantial in a Hausa economy where Influence has other uses. Scout the opponent before committing to Palace production, then keep Maigadi with supporting units that can handle targets outside its favorable matchup. Its 38-second training time means it should be queued before a mercenary push reaches the settlement. Use the Palace’s access to reinforce a planned army rather than spending Influence reactively without a clear target.

Using all three attack modes

Maigadi’s identical listed base damage at hand, ranged and siege distances gives it flexibility as a force advances, but the attack intervals differ: 1.5 seconds in hand combat and three seconds at range or against structures. The ranged attack is the one with the 1.5× Mercenary and MercType2 bonuses, so keep the target in range when exploiting that matchup. Its 14-range shot allows it to contribute before joining close combat, while its 36-damage siege strike helps pressure a structure after the area is secured. Do not confuse this versatility with a universal counter: the specific bonus is limited to mercenary classes, and Heavy Infantry can still be answered by its usual counters. The Palace and Influence price make it important to decide before production whether the opposing force justifies the investment.

Influence planning

Because the unit costs 190 Influence, keep enough of that resource for the Hausa economy’s other priorities. Use Maigadi when its mercenary bonus or mixed attack profile addresses a real need, not merely because the Palace can train it.

Hausa Influence infantry and mercenary counter

The Maigadi is Hausa Heavy Infantry trained at the Palace from the Commerce Age. It costs 190 Influence, occupies one population and takes 38 seconds to train. Its 36-damage hand and ranged attacks give it options at close and medium distance, with a 1.5× bonus against Mercenaries and the related MercType2 class. At 260 hit points and 20% ranged resistance, it can stand in a formation, but four speed makes it vulnerable to being kited. Use it when the opponent fields mercenary units or when the Hausa army needs a versatile heavy infantry line.

Influence budgeting and engagement range

Influence also pays for Hausa alliances, artillery and other specialist units, so compare the Maigadi’s cost with the rest of the army plan. Its ranged attack reaches 14, while the 36-damage siege attack can contribute against an exposed structure; neither removes its heavy-infantry weaknesses. Keep support nearby against ranged counters and avoid sending it alone across open ground. The Palace is the listed production building, so protect the site if Maigadi reinforcements are important. Focus on Mercenaries when its bonus applies and let other units handle enemy types outside that role.
