Placement & timing

Use the African Palace when its artillery and mercenary queues support the army you are actually fielding, or when a protected forward site can also secure eligible Home City shipments. Its 200 Wood and 200 Coin cost is accessible earlier than many fortified production buildings, but the 60-second construction period leaves the builder exposed. Hausa and Ethiopian rosters differ, so check which artillery and mercenaries the chosen civilization can produce before investing or reserving Coin. The Palace can shelter Villagers and compatible support units and attacks nearby enemies, while its automatic Industrial and Imperial Age improvements expand the area of its Bombard attack. Place it where it covers workers or a route, then retain mobile troops to protect it from siege and to use the production it provides.

African defensive roster and Age upgrades

The African Palace combines a defensive fortification with a production building. It costs 200 Wood and 200 Coin, becomes available in the Commerce Age, has 3,500 hit points and a line of sight of 30, and can garrison up to fifty Villagers and compatible support units. Its attack reaches 24 and deals 30 building damage every three seconds, with increased damage against Cavalry and Shock Troops; a separate anti-siege attack reaches 40. It can train African artillery and Mercenaries, and receive Home City shipments. The Hausa and Ethiopians have different unit options: early examples include the Levied Gunner for 90 Influence and the Hausa Maigadi for 190 Influence. The Palace upgrades automatically in the Industrial and Imperial Ages, increasing the area of effect of its Bombard attack each time. Use one to protect a central route and provide a safe shipment point, but remember that the 60-second construction time and four-building limit make it an investment that should cover a valuable area.

African artillery and mercenary production

The African Palace becomes available in the Commerce Age and trains artillery and mercenaries, attacks nearby enemies and receives eligible Home City shipments. It costs 200 Wood and 200 Coin, takes about 60 seconds to build and has a limit of four in the recorded profile. Ethiopian Villagers, Emir, Ras, Kingdom Builder or a Palace Builder can provide construction. Its roster depends on the African civilization and current Age, so inspect the unit list before using the Palace as the army’s only production source.

Forward placement and shipment access

A Palace has 3,500 hit points, 30 line of sight and a 5-by-5 footprint. Place it where it can support a push or protect workers, but keep mobile units ready because siege can still threaten the structure. Use the building as a shipment destination only when the Home City card permits it. Mercenary and artillery production can consume substantial Coin, so maintain enough gathering to keep the queues active. Building several Palaces is useful only when the economy and map control justify distributed production.
