Effect & research conditions

Research costs 2,000 Wood and takes 15 seconds. The one-time group arrives through research, while the Tavern unlock allows later production. The technology requires the Portuguese Church and Industrial Age. Reserve population for the 11 Knights and protect the Tavern so the force can be reinforced after the first engagement.

Research condition

Available to Portuguese from the Industrial Age. Research it at Church.

When to research

Research before a push when the economy can afford the Wood and the army has population room. Use the delivered Black Riders to establish pressure, then continue production at the Tavern if the game will last. Their improved hand attack rewards close combat, so screen them from units that counter cavalry or can stop their approach.

Immediate force plus a continuing Tavern option

This technology changes the Portuguese army in two stages: it sends 11 Order Knights immediately and makes future Black Riders available at the Tavern. The hit-point and hand-damage bonuses improve the unit line, while the initial group creates a timing window. Plan for the population and protect the new production building. If the player cannot afford more Knights afterward, use the shipment as a focused push rather than treating it as a self-sustaining army.
