Starting location

Reach The Park through the Park Checkpoint in the north-east corner of the Central region — the text appears on the map when you zoom in. The Park is fully optional and never visited by the main story. After unfogging the map, the middle of the Park shows "New Mold strains?" — drop down the hole there and check the left side for a mold to inspect with L1/LB. The inspection triggers dialogue, and eating the Mold starts the quest.

Walkthrough

Eat the Pizzeria Mold

Three more mold pieces are marked on the map and can be eaten in any order. The Pizzeria mold sits in the south-east corner of the Park: reach it through the sewers in the north-east of the Park, following the "FBC" signs on the right side of the sewers until you reach the Pizzeria. Defeat all the enemies to open the Pizzeria door, go inside, and interact with the mold.

Potential bug: sometimes the interact prompt is missing and yellow fog inside the Pizzeria deals persistent damage. If that happens, go outside and attack the Pizzeria's outer windows until the yellow fog stops — once the environmental damage ends, the mold can be interacted with normally.

Eat the Minimart Mold

The south-west corner of the Park holds the easiest strain: just defeat the enemies to open the door and eat the mold.

Eat the Gym Mold

The north-west corner of the Park, at the bottom of a big spore-infested path. Fight through to open the path to the mold.

Kill the Resonant Behind the Mold Gate

Return to where the quest started — the hole in the middle of the Park. After eating all three molds, the Mold Gate opens as you approach. Follow the path to the boss: destroy its two tentacles first, then destroy the parts on the main boss body. Finish it with the button prompt when it appears.

Afterwards you pick one of two abilities — Spore Burst or Growth — changeable any time later in The Gap via the Mural.
