Overview
The kit is used automatically when a Counter-Terrorist starts defusing a planted C4 Explosive. The Wiki lists a five-second defuse with the kit compared with ten seconds without it. Its use does not require a separate button or consume it after one bomb; the equipment remains available for later plants while the player has it.
The kit belongs to the Counter-Terrorist side and can be purchased in applicable Bomb Defusal queues. The retrieved CS2 article lists it at $400 in Competitive-style queues. In CS2 Casual’s bomb scenario, the Wiki states that Counter-Terrorists receive kits at the start of the round. Mode-specific rules matter; do not apply one purchase rule to every playlist.
Defusing under pressure
A shorter defuse gives defenders more opportunity to challenge a late plant, but the kit cannot clear a site for its owner. A teammate should confirm the nearest attacker, watch an entrance or provide a flash before the defuser commits. If a CT begins while an attacker can interrupt them, the interaction can fail regardless of kit ownership.
When the bomb is planted, communicate whether the player with a kit has reached the device. A teammate without a kit may start first if waiting would cost the entire round, but know how much time remains. The choice involves clearing the site, reaching the C4 and completing the interaction.
Dropped kits & interactions
A kit drops when its Counter-Terrorist owner is eliminated. Another CT can collect it and use it for a later defuse. The HUD indicates who has the equipment; communicate its location if the team needs a faster approach. Terrorists cannot use a Defuse Kit to defuse their own plant.
The kit interacts with a planted bomb in Bomb Defusal and a retake scenario. It does not complete the objective on its own: the Counter-Terrorist must reach the C4 and maintain the defuse without interruption.
CS2 applicability
This page distinguishes CS2 Casual’s provided kit from a kit purchase in other Bomb Defusal queues. Historical prices in previous editions are not listed as current CS2 data.
Team equipment indicator (March 31, 2023)
The March 31, 2023 Counter-Strike 2 Limited Test update added the Defuse Kit to the team equipment display. This made kit equipment visible in the team-level interface; the note does not change the kit’s use time, price or purchase eligibility.
