CS2 sticker application at a glance
| Feature | CS2 behavior | What to consider |
|---|---|---|
| Sticker slots | A weapon supports up to five applied stickers | Positions are tied to the weapon; inspect the selected slot and placement before confirming |
| Application | Applying consumes the loose sticker and attaches it to the weapon item | The applied sticker is no longer a separate inventory item |
| Scraping | Repeated scraping visibly wears the design and can fully remove it | The final removal destroys the sticker; review the confirmation carefully |
| Exterior wear | Stickers do not have a weapon-finish float or exterior condition | Scraping is a separate, deliberate change to the decal’s appearance |
| Gameplay effect | Cosmetic only | The weapon’s combat statistics and function are unchanged |
Sticker items and weapon slots
A sticker begins as a separate inventory item. In the CS2 item-inspection and customization flow, the player selects an eligible weapon and an available sticker position, then applies the design to that weapon. A weapon can carry up to five stickers. After application, the sticker no longer exists as a separate loose item; it is attached to the weapon item and travels with it if the weapon itself is traded. Review the selected weapon and position before applying a valuable sticker.
Applied stickers are cosmetic. They do not improve damage, firing accuracy, recoil, ammunition or movement. They can be combined visually with a weapon finish, so the same decal may look different on different surfaces or at a different position. Weapon Skins and Weapon Finishes describe the base appearance underneath the sticker.
Sticker appearance and variants
Sticker designs use different visual treatments. Commonly encountered variants include Paper, Glossy, Glitter, Holo, Foil, Gold and Lenticular. Paper-backed designs can reveal their backing as they are scraped; Glossy styles can expose the weapon finish beneath them. Holo and Glitter treatments create reflective or textured effects, Foil uses an embossed metallic look, Gold uses a gold-toned treatment, and Lenticular designs create an apparent depth or shifting image as the viewing angle changes. A particular design may be offered in only one variant or in several variants, depending on its capsule or event release.
The sticker has no weapon-style exterior value that steadily degrades with time. Scraping is a separate player action that changes its displayed appearance in steps. Thus an unapplied sticker’s variant and a weapon’s applied sticker condition are different pieces of item information. The in-game inspect view is the practical place to examine placement and how the decal reads against the chosen finish.
Scraping, removal and irreversible changes
Scraping gradually wears a sticker’s visible artwork. The player can use the inspect interface to alter its appearance and reveal more of the surface below. This is an intentional customization action, not natural wear that accumulates while playing. Some designs reveal text or small details as they are scraped, but those details depend on the individual sticker and should not be assumed for every item.
If scraping continues to the final stage, the sticker is removed and destroyed. It does not return to the inventory as an unapplied item. The interface warns before final removal; read that confirmation when customizing a sticker with market or personal value. Once attached, the sticker is associated with the weapon item, so selling or trading the weapon transfers its applied configuration along with it.
Capsules, events and inventory sources
Stickers enter inventories through named Sticker Capsules, tournament capsules, event or reward systems where available, player-to-player trades and market listings. Capsule contents and release status are tied to the specific capsule. A capsule that once appeared in a time-limited event should not be described as currently obtainable without checking its present availability. Tournament sticker releases can include team designs and player autographs; Souvenir weapon items can also carry tournament stickers as part of their applied presentation. Souvenir Packages covers the package and map context, while Inventory explains where owned items are stored.
A capsule, the sticker inside it and a weapon with that sticker applied are distinct inventory states. Opening a capsule yields an item from that capsule’s contents under its applicable rules; buying a sticker directly or trading for it is a different acquisition route. A weapon listing may already include applied stickers, so inspect the full item before treating it as the base weapon finish alone. Weapon Cases, Collections and Trade Up Contract are related inventory systems with different item rules.
Tournament and community designs
Tournament sticker collections can record a particular event, team, player autograph or stage. Their identity and date matter to collectors because the design can connect an inventory item to a specific competition. Availability can change after an event ends, while an already-owned sticker or decorated weapon remains an inventory item. Do not infer that every historical team or signature capsule is still sold in the CS2 store.
Community-created designs and other themed sets broaden the sticker catalogue beyond tournament releases. Their exact source and capsule belong to the named collection or event entry. This guide treats each release as a dated CS2 item rather than merging different event capsules into one permanent pool. Item Updates records changes in CS2 item availability.
CS2 scope and item history
The Counter-Strike sticker system predates CS2, but this page describes the item as it is used in Counter-Strike 2: its inventory state, application to weapons, limited sticker slots, appearance variants and irreversible scraping. Earlier interface screenshots or release rules can differ from the current CS2 client and are not used here as live instructions. Historical tournament designs are included only as CS2 inventory collectibles, not as rules from another game.
Sticker appearance and acquisition depend on the specific release. Capsule contents, store availability, tournament items and market prices can change, so those details should be recorded with a release date when relevant. The player-facing distinction remains stable: an unapplied sticker is a loose inventory object, and an applied sticker is a cosmetic part of a weapon item. See Patch Archive for dated game changes.
Cologne 2026 Sticker Shop bookmarks
A May 28, 2026 CS2 update added the ability to bookmark stickers in the Cologne 2026 Shop. A bookmark marks a design for easier return while browsing that event shop; it is a shop-navigation aid and does not place a sticker on a weapon, change its wear, or add it to inventory. The patch identifies the Cologne 2026 Shop specifically, so this behavior should not be generalized to every sticker browser or future event interface.
May 21, 2026 IEM Cologne Major update
The May 21, 2026 Cologne Major Shop update allowed players to obtain any sticker directly at a demand-set price. Tokens could be purchased and redeemed for a chosen sticker. The shop used relative demand: when a sticker was bought frequently, its price increased while other sticker prices decreased. This was a tournament-shop economy and should not be confused with ordinary Sticker Capsules or a permanent market price.
The patch also described a price-protection refund. If a sticker’s price fell by more than 25 tokens within 24 hours after purchase, the player received a token refund equal to the full difference. This was a narrowly defined Cologne 2026 shop rule; it does not imply refunds for market purchases or every later event shop. See IEM Cologne 2026 Major.
M4 sticker placement and size
The August 15, 2023 Limited Test update unified the StatTrak position on both CS2 M4 models so it would not obscure stickers. It also adjusted M4A4 sticker sizes to prevent them from overlapping. These were cosmetic placement changes: the update did not change either rifle’s statistics or the function of StatTrak. See M4A4, M4A1-S and Weapon Skins.
Foil and sticker-size adjustments (July 17, 2023)
The July 17, 2023 Limited Test update reported various improvements to foil stickers and adjustments to the size of stickers applied to weapons. The brief notes do not enumerate every finish or state exact before-and-after dimensions. These changes concern cosmetic presentation and placement, not weapon performance.
Holo sticker adjustment (July 21, 2023)
A July 21, 2023 Limited Test update made slight adjustments to some Holo stickers. The brief note does not identify the affected designs or quantify the visual changes, so it should be read as a dated cosmetic adjustment rather than a general change to all Holo finishes or sticker application.
Sticker improvements (June 20, 2023)
The June 20, 2023 Counter-Strike 2 Limited Test notes list “various improvements to Stickers.” They do not name particular designs or describe the visual adjustments, so the dated history records a general presentation update without assigning a change to a specific Sticker, collection, or application mechanic.
PBR compatibility and sticker contrast (March 31, 2023)
The March 31, 2023 update continued physically based rendering compatibility adjustments for Stickers. Some styles were brightened to improve contrast, and the update added functionality intended to support finer adjustment of individual items in future content updates. The patch does not identify which sticker designs were changed or give material parameters.
Sticker fixes (September 13, 2023)
The patch listed various Sticker fixes without naming designs, collections or symptoms. It cannot support a claim about a specific rendering or placement change. Stickers were named alongside finishes and Gloves but remain a distinct inventory category.
Copenhagen 2024 Champions Autograph Capsule (April 2, 2024)
After Natus Vincere won the PGL Copenhagen Major, the Copenhagen 2024 Champions Autograph Capsule became available for purchase in the Copenhagen 2024 Major Hub. This dated release connects the Major winner announcement to a Champions autograph item release. The update does not list capsule contents, sticker signatures, price or sale duration, so those details should not be inferred from the announcement.
Scraping or removing Stickers from a weapon (April 16, 2024)
The update allowed a Sticker to be scraped or removed by selecting its icon beneath the weapon. This made the weapon’s sticker-icon interface a direct way to choose the applied Sticker for an action. The note does not describe a revised scrape increment, result preview, confirmation step or any refund, so those mechanics should not be inferred from this release entry. It establishes the available selection path only.
Copenhagen 2024 Major capsule sale (April 25, 2024)
On April 25, 2024, Copenhagen 2024 Major sticker capsules went on sale at 75% off. This is a dated store-price event for the named Major capsules, not a general discount on every sticker or a change to capsule contents. Capsules are inventory containers; opening one produces an item according to that capsule's contents and item rules. The sale date and discount should remain attached to the event rather than being presented as a current price. See Stickers for how stickers are applied and Inventory for item inspection.
