Map identity and setting
Sanctum is a map for Wingman, the two-player-per-side Counter-Strike 2 mode. Its identifier is de_sanctum, its listed map group is Wingman Group, and the Wiki identifies Cambodia as its location. Valve added Sanctum to Wingman on January 21, 2026. These facts identify its game, mode and dated arrival; they do not imply that it remains in every later active playlist.
The creators’ Workshop description presents Sanctum as the wreck of an ancient temple undergoing reconstruction. Its setting centers on moving through the ruins and protecting cultural inheritance. The description also frames the temple as threatened by collapse and a jungle spirit in local legend. This is narrative atmosphere for the map, not a documented gameplay hazard: the source does not say that the temple collapses during a round or that a spirit affects players.
Creators and map development
The five credited creators have distinct production roles. Twist is credited with environment art, Rainless with prop art, Ruban with level design, Gurin with digital art, and Rastick with additional level-design help. The Workshop description also thanks g3om and synkope for gameplay feedback and erjey for a lantern model. These contributions help explain how the environment, props, visual artwork and playable layout were developed, while keeping map authorship separate from any in-match faction or ability.
Sanctum is a community Workshop map integrated into CS2’s Wingman offering, rather than a standalone ruleset. Its map identity can therefore remain useful even when the live queue or Workshop listing changes. The January 2026 addition is a dated record of official mode inclusion; current compatibility and download status should be checked independently.
Wingman context
Wingman applies the Bomb Defusal objective to a two-versus-two match. Terrorists try to plant and protect the C4 Explosive; Counter-Terrorists contest the site and may need to retake and defuse. With only two players per side, each teammate’s information and position matter substantially. These are shared mode rules and should not be confused with a Sanctum-specific route guide.
The available Sanctum map entry and creator description do not provide a named callout list, bombsite geometry, spawn-to-site directions or a detailed minimap transcription. This article consequently identifies the map’s mode, setting, creators and dated maintenance but does not invent room names, choke points or tactical lineups. Use in-game map information for exact positions and consult Map Rotations for dated playlist changes.
Dated CS2 map updates
On May 28, 2026, a CS2 update changed ambience at Terrorist spawn: map ambience sounds there were removed except for music, and radio music became audible over a shorter distance. The update also changed the volcano eruption to trigger after round two, fixed a critical clipping issue at Counter-Terrorist spawn and addressed minor visual bugs.
These notes concern sound, environmental timing, collision and visuals. The patch does not describe a volcano damage event, a round objective tied to the eruption, or the exact physical boundaries of the spawn clipping fix. Players can use the date to distinguish this build’s ambience and eruption timing from earlier versions, but should not infer combat mechanics from the environmental effect.
On January 21, 2026, the release update added Sanctum and Poseidon to Wingman. A later Workshop-page check on October 5, 2026 displayed the Sanctum item as removed from the community and incompatible with CS2. That is the status shown by the Workshop listing on that retrieval date; it is recorded separately from the official in-game addition and does not rewrite the historical CS2 update.
Counter-Strike 2 scope
This entry covers Sanctum’s Counter-Strike 2 identity and dated CS2 map changes. The map’s January 21, 2026 mode addition, May 28 audio/volcano/clipping updates and October 5 Workshop-page status refer to different kinds of availability and behavior. The sources do not support an exact room-by-room route guide, so no geometry or callouts from another game or an unverified map version are included.
