Automatic fire and target selection

The SCAR-20 is the Counter-Terrorist automatic sniper rifle. Its 20-round magazine and 240-round-per-minute fire rate allow repeated scoped shots without a bolt cycle after every hit. Each shot deals 80 base damage; an armored body hit is not a one-shot elimination, but follow-up fire can finish a damaged opponent or keep a crossing under pressure. The hitbox table shows 319 head damage and 99 abdomen damage before armor, versus 263 and 82 through armor. Chest and arms take 79/65, and legs 59.

Unlike the AWP, the SCAR-20 is designed to hold a lane with successive shots. The source notes its comparatively low recoil and large reserve; it can be fired through smoke or supported thin surfaces to discourage a push, although opacity and penetration limits still matter. The 20-round magazine is not unlimited: automatic fire can spend it quickly, and a 3.1-second reload creates an opening. Track the ammunition and reload from cover rather than emptying the magazine automatically.

Scope, movement and position

Secondary fire enters the high-power scope and a further press changes magnification. Unscoped accuracy is poor and there is no crosshair, so establish the angle before an opponent reaches the lane. Running speed falls from 215 to 120 units per second while scoped; walking and crouch-walking are also much slower in the scoped state. Reposition unscoped when the team needs a fast rotation, then scope again from a protected position.

The Wiki describes the SCAR-20 as useful for a solo hold: reliable long-range fire can let teammates cover other routes. That division only works if the sniper communicates lost vision and survives a flank. A smoke can obscure a crossing, but spraying without information wastes ammunition and may expose the position. Coordinate with the site defenders and avoid staying scoped on one line after the opponent knows where the rifle is.

Price and team economy

At $5,000, the SCAR-20 is a costly Counter-Terrorist rifle. Its $300 kill reward does not quickly recover the initial investment. The AWP offers a one-shot body kill and is often preferred when a team can afford it; the SCAR-20 trades that stopping power for automatic follow-up fire. The Terrorist G3SG1 is its team-restricted counterpart.

A team buying the SCAR-20 should still budget for armor and utility, and protect the player during a slow rotation or reload. It is a specialized hold rather than a routine replacement for the M4A4 or M4A1-S. See Economy, Buy Menu and AWP before comparing a full rifle buy.

Appearance improvement (June 9, 2023)

The June 9, 2023 update listed the SCAR-20 among weapons whose appearance was improved. It did not specify the model or visual detail changed; the update does not state a change to the rifle’s firing or damage properties.
