Role & availability

The USP-S is one of the two sidearms a Counter-Terrorist can select for the starting pistol loadout. The selection is configured before a match through the CS2 loadout system; the player does not switch between the USP-S and P2000 in the middle of a round. It is also available through the pistol purchase choices when buying is allowed.

The suppressor reduces the weapon’s audible report and muzzle flash compared with an unsuppressed pistol. It does not make shots completely silent or conceal the shooter from every source of information. Its silenced presentation and controlled firing role help distinguish it from the P2000, while the choice between the two remains a player loadout preference.

Aiming & ammunition

The USP-S uses semi-automatic fire. Its suppressor-equipped profile supports careful shots, but the player still needs to manage aim and ammunition. Repeated firing without resetting aim can reduce practical accuracy, and an empty pistol requires a reload that takes time during which the player cannot fire.

As with other CS2 weapons, movement changes accuracy. Settle before taking a shot at range and use cover to avoid trading pistol fire against an opponent with a stronger primary. The USP-S is a sidearm: its role is especially clear at the start of a round or as a backup, not as a direct replacement for a rifle in every engagement.

When players use it

Counter-Terrorists carry the USP-S during pistol rounds when it is selected as their starting sidearm. Players can use it to hold a close approach, take a measured shot or finish an opponent after switching from a primary. A teammate’s callout and crossfire can make a precise pistol more effective than taking an isolated duel.

The P2000 is the alternative Counter-Terrorist starting pistol; compare both entries when setting a loadout. Armor changes the result of hits, while a Flashbang can create a safer opportunity to fire. The Buy Menu explains how a starting pistol fits into other round purchases.

CS2 applicability

This entry describes the CS2 USP-S and its role as a selectable Counter-Terrorist starting pistol. It does not combine statistics or equipment rules from earlier releases. Current numeric values remain pending a dated CS2 source audit.

Counter-Terrorist Loadout shortcut (June 9, 2023)

The June 9, 2023 Limited Test update added a “Replace for CT” context-menu shortcut when the USP-S was equipped, allowing the Loadout choice to be switched to the P2000. The reciprocal shortcut was available when the P2000 was equipped. This dated interface shortcut did not change the pistol’s statistics or make it available to the Terrorist side.

Buy Menu description correction (September 7, 2023)

A September 7, 2023 Limited Test fix restored the USP-S description in the Buy Menu when it was missing. The note concerns the text displayed for the weapon and does not announce a change to the USP-S’s statistics, purchase rules or CT loadout role.

Jawbreaker ambient-occlusion correction (April 25, 2024)

The April 25, 2024 update corrected the ambient-occlusion texture on USP-S | Jawbreaker. Ambient occlusion affects how surface details and shading appear on the finish, so this was an artwork-texture correction for the named skin. The patch did not describe a change to the USP-S weapon, its silencer, performance or other finishes.
