Beginner Tips

Your gear is your build
1. There are no classes — gear is your class. Everything about your playstyle comes from what you equip: one melee weapon, one ranged weapon, four armor pieces, three artifacts, and three talismans. A new weapon is a new class.
2. There is no full-set bonus — mix armor freely. Matching set pieces gives you nothing extra, so combine pieces for their individual unique effects.
3. Keep your gear within about 10 levels. The inventory warns you when gear falls too far behind, and outdated equipment will quietly cripple your damage.
4. Talismans level up. The new talisman category is not static — invest in leveling your three talisman slots as your hero grows.
Combat fundamentals
5. Jump attacks are not always better. Some weapons tested with higher ground DPS than airborne DPS; slow weapons gain the most from jump cancelling, so test each weapon's best technique on a dummy.
6. Watch the Sift's tide. Flow means normal conditions, Thrive speeds up soul regeneration and cooldowns, and Endure makes enemies much tougher. Check the tide before entering the Sift.
7. Never touch Sift water — it burns. Treat every pool in the Sift as a hazard, no matter how shallow it looks.
8. Fill every artifact slot. Your second artifact slot unlocks at hero level 5 and the third at level 10, and artifacts count toward your item power. Never leave one empty.
9. Ranged ammo never runs out. Ammunition recharges over time, so your bow or crossbow is always available as a fallback.
10. Turn on Always Show Souls. Found in Settings → Interface, it is off by default — flip it on so you can track the resource your artifacts need.
Enchanting and upgrading
11. Enchanting unlocks after the story quest "Training With the Enchantsmith" (around level 15). The Enchantsmith stands beside the Town Merchant in Brave Haven.
12. Enchant Books are reusable on any gear. Books you find are not consumed by a single item — see Enchanting.
13. Rifts are the enchantment-book farm. Every end-of-rift chest pays at least one book, runs take 5–20 minutes, and there are 32 books total to collect.
14. Disenchanting is free. Removing enchantments returns all your enchantment points, so experiment without fear. It does not return echo shards, though.
15. Rerolling unlocks late and is permanent. The Blacksmith's re-roll sits behind Merchant Level 3 in the preview build, and re-rolled stats cannot be reverted.
16. Reroll costs climb: 1, 2, 3, 5, then 7 echo shards. Budget your shards before committing to repeated rerolls.
17. Rerolls lean toward the item's effects. A companion-themed helmet tends to roll companion effects, so reroll gear whose theme already matches what you want.
18. Upgrade prices vary by rarity. A +2 upgrade step cost 62 emeralds for a Rare and 182 for a Unique in the preview build.
19. Upgrades are capped by your Hero Level. The Blacksmith can only carry an item up to your level's Item Power, so out-levelling your gear matters more than perfect rolls.
Loot and currency
20. Echo shards are the key currency. They pay for rerolls, enchanting, and merchant upgrades, and drop from Soul Corrupted enemies and procedural dungeons.
21. Spend before you hit the caps. After the October 1 balance update, emeralds cap at 99,999 (9,999 at launch), echo shards cap at 100, and you can hold only 80 items per gear type. Scrapped items can be bought back.
22. Wear loot gear before opening chests. Blue-pouch effects raise your extra-drop chance up to about 60%, and blue-ring effects raise your higher-rarity chance.
23. World chests restock when you log out and back in. Dungeon entrances move between sessions, so re-logging refreshes the world.
24. Your minimap shows secrets. Watch it for hidden paths — special chests hold better gear.
25. Golden doors without a dungeon sign mean free loot — and they stay put. Grab them whenever you spot one.
26. Read quest rewards first. Side quests often pay unique gear, and levelling the Town Merchant improves its shop stock.
27. Farm beaten bosses. Rematch a boss from its respawn stone: the rematch pays another unique once, then random loot. Beaten bosses also pay around 8 soul shards, the Singer's Meadow golem dies in about 15 seconds per run, and the bonus arena chest refills on logout.
28. Refight bosses from the respawn stone. Beyond the unique payout, note that a boss scales up if you return at a much higher level.
29. Merchant refreshes stop being free. Later refreshes cost echo shards, so pick your shopping moments.
Multiplayer
30. Start an online character — offline stays offline forever. If you want to play with others, create your hero online and set invite-only when you want to play solo. Console players note: online heroes need the platform subscription even for solo play, while offline heroes don't and sync across devices. See Multiplayer.
Exploring
31. Use the minecart network. Stations connect the regions for fast travel, and areas track your item collection progress.
32. The mini inventory does not pause the game. Open it from Settings → Interface; on PC, middle mouse draws a path to your marked quest.
33. Hero level caps at 100 and item power at 149. Once you hit the caps, your progression shifts entirely to better rolls and builds — check the Tier List and Endgame Builds for what to chase.
