One connected world

Minecraft Dungeons II drops the first game's discrete mission list in favor of a single contiguous, fixed, interconnected world dotted with dungeons — Mojang has not called it "open world," but you travel through it as one continuous place rather than selecting missions from a map screen. The story crosses both the Overworld and beyond, following a new threat spreading chaos across two worlds. The August 20, 2026 trailer revealed the alien landscapes of the Sift dimension, reached through rifts in the Overworld, with its own enemy types and loadout-battle-style customization. Minecart stations link the regions together for fast travel. Note that region counts and the exact campaign progression are still unconfirmed by Mojang; level numbers come from the progression table and location counts from the world map.

Overworld regions

Region 4 is the densest hub, with 47 dungeons and 24 smiths, while later regions trade dungeon count for richer chests. Drop-list sizes run 55–76 items per region.

What the counts mean for players

Each region's numbers tell you what to do there. Stations connect to the minecart network for fast travel — regions with more stations are easier to farm. Dungeons are repeatable loot runs, and Region 4's 47 make it the farming capital of the early game. Chests in the world restock when you log out and back in, so high-chest regions like Region 5 (35 chests) reward re-log farming routes. Rifts are the enchantment-book farm: every end-of-rift chest pays at least one book, so rift-dense regions are where you complete your 32-book collection. Merchants sell gear that improves as you level the Town Merchant, and smiths handle upgrades — capped by your Hero Level's Item Power — so a region with 24 smiths like Region 4 means you are rarely far from an upgrade bench.

The Sift

Three Sift regions sit behind Overworld rifts:

The Sift is a higher-level playground with its own tide system — Flow is normal, Thrive speeds up soul regen and cooldowns, and Endure makes enemies much tougher — and its water burns, so stay out of it. Watch the tide before diving into Sift dungeons or rifts.

Campaign flow

The campaign carries you across the Overworld regions in rising level order before the story pushes through rifts into the higher-level Sift regions, and after the credits the Soul Storms loop takes over as the endgame. Because the world is fixed rather than procedurally arranged, secrets, chests, and merchants stay where you found them — check the Beginner Tips for how to farm them efficiently.

A note on what is confirmed

The levels quoted above come from the progression table and the location counts from the world map; the total region count and the exact campaign progression are still unconfirmed by Mojang, so treat this page as the best available community mapping rather than an official region list. What is confirmed is the structure itself: one contiguous fixed world, minecart stations linking its regions, rifts leading into the Sift, and a story that spans both worlds before handing you the Soul Storms endgame.
