Build-order discipline and adaptation
A build order is a repeatable opening sequence for reaching a goal efficiently, but it must leave room to react to the map and opponent.

Overview
A build order is a repeatable opening sequence for reaching a goal efficiently, but it must leave room to react to the map and opponent.
Plan and execution
Keep the Town Center producing Villagers, direct new workers with rally points, and check for idle workers as tasks finish. Prepare the buildings and resources required by the chosen timing, then adapt worker assignments when scouting reveals pressure or a map constraint.
Risks and adaptation
Treat the sequence as a starting plan rather than a script. If food, housing, or safety is short, correct the immediate bottleneck instead of continuing steps that no longer fit the match.
Decision example
A build order is a resource schedule for a chosen opening. Keep the first Villager assignments and housing on time, but check whether scouting or the map invalidates the planned army. If an enemy tower threatens gold, move workers and adjust the unit mix rather than following the next step mechanically. Review food, wood, and gold before each Age advance or production building; a stockpile in one resource and an empty queue in another means the schedule needs correction.
