Opening decision and first timing
Free Lumber Camp upgrades leave wood available for Farms or production, and infantry attack improves as Ages pass. An early Men-at-Arms group can test the enemy’s exposed economy, but its value is the time and information gained rather than a guaranteed kill. Stop reinforcing if ranged counters form and prepare the Castle Age transition.
Composition, counters, and transition
Armored Battle Elephants and Arambai offer different offensive roles. Elephants need a safe route and supporting units; Arambai favor mobile pressure but should not be thrown into a dense ranged response. Discounted Monastery research makes Monks attractive for Relics, healing, or conversions when the army can protect them. Because the Archery Range is narrow, scout for enemy ranged masses early and plan a supporting answer.
Opening priorities
Use the Feudal infantry attack bonus to make early Men-at-Arms pressure meaningful, then add support before opponents can stabilize.
Core army
Infantry lead the opening; Monks and Battle Elephants give the army additional late-game roles.
Technology & transition
Carry an early raid into Castle Age with monastery support or an elephant transition when food and gold allow.
Watch for
The Archery Range is a narrow option, so avoid relying on foot archers as the only answer to enemy pressure.
