Clerical Recruitment gives Saxon Monks the reach and production support to contest heavy siege before it can safely fire. Keep Monks positioned behind the army and use the extra range to threaten siege and valuable units.
Plan and execution
Research Clerical Recruitment when Onagers or other long-range siege are a pressing threat and Monks are available to answer them. Place the Monks behind a screen, begin conversions before the enemy siege reaches firing range, and retreat them between attempts while their faith recovers. Use their training-time improvement to replace losses and maintain a support group near the frontline.
Risks and adaptation
The longer reach does not make Monks invulnerable, and their faith recovery can leave them exposed after repeated attempts. Protect them from cavalry dives and keep a fallback route; do not advance alone into the siege line.
