Plan and execution
Secure the first Castle and research Detinets when you intend to add more Castles or towers. Use the saved stone to claim another resource zone, defend a second approach, or support additional Boyar production from a broader Castle network. Repairing the initial Castle can also benefit, so maintain it while the economy transitions toward a wider defensive footprint.
Risks and adaptation
The first Castle must be built before the technology can benefit later structures, so it does not fund its own initial cost in ordinary situations. Do not add towers simply because stone is cheaper; each position still needs vision and a plan for defending siege.
