Ghulam anti-archer breakthrough

Ghulam: Ghulams are suited to breaking archer formations: their speed and pierce armor help them close, while their attacks can pass through units in a clump. They work best when the opponent’s ranged line is the main threat.

Overview

Ghulam: Ghulams are suited to breaking archer formations: their speed and pierce armor help them close, while their attacks can pass through units in a clump. They work best when the opponent’s ranged line is the main threat.

Plan and execution

Approach archers behind a screen or through a flank, then keep the Ghulams moving through the formation instead of stopping at its edge. Use them to open space for the rest of the army and avoid unnecessary fights with targets outside their specialty.

Risks and adaptation

Anti-infantry units and concentrated melee pressure can punish Ghulams. Do not send them across open ground under fire or chase scattered archers so far that the main army loses its screen.
