Opening decision and first timing
Because hunt and livestock food does not decay, gathering can be scheduled with less waste, but dangerous wildlife still requires scouting and worker protection. Faster-attacking mounted units and Fire Lancers create early military choices. Do not split the economy among too many lines before one can be upgraded and reinforced.
Composition, counters, and transition
Iron Pagodas and Grenadiers fill very different roles: decide whether the opponent’s army calls for a durable mounted core or a ranged area threat. Earlier Siege Engineers and cheaper siege research can make a Castle Age push unusually potent. Keep siege behind a screen; reduced friendly-fire damage helps a crowded formation but will not protect it from enemy dives.

Technology & transition
Turn food security into Castle Age production and select the unit line that best fits the opponent.
Watch for
The technology tree has meaningful late-game omissions; check the available upgrades before committing to a long fight.
