Loom villager-risk timing

Loom improves Villager survivability, which matters most before early raiding or when workers must cross dangerous terrain. Time it against the actual opening threat and the value of keeping economic production running.

Overview

Loom improves Villager survivability, which matters most before early raiding or when workers must cross dangerous terrain. Time it against the actual opening threat and the value of keeping economic production running.

Plan and execution

Research Loom when the opponent’s scout or early pressure can reach Villagers before your defenses are ready, or before sending a worker to lure wildlife, wall, or build in an exposed area. Use the extra durability to buy time for a retreat or garrison, not to fight a military group. Resume Villager and Town Center production immediately after the protection is in place.

Risks and adaptation

Loom costs time and resources that could otherwise advance the opening, and it becomes less decisive against larger armies. Do not treat a Loomed Villager as a combat unit or leave workers exposed because they can take a few more hits.
