Overview

Monks heal eligible allies, convert valuable enemies, and contest relics when they have vision and protection.

Plan and execution

Keep them behind the main line, choose valuable targets, and use pauses to heal or recover relics. Screen them from cavalry.

Risks and adaptation

Fast units and ranged fire can overwhelm them. Do not send Monks into a crowded battle without support. Select a valuable target before the engagement and keep Monks behind the screen. Do not let a conversion attempt draw the whole army away; escort relic carriers until they reach a safe Monastery.

Decision example

Monks are strongest behind a durable front where they can heal survivors, threaten a valuable conversion, and retreat if the enemy closes. Escort them toward Relics only when the route is safe; a conversion attempt in the middle of a raid can cost both Monk and army. Research Monastery technologies for the threats actually present, such as enemy siege or fast units, and avoid spending on every available upgrade before the first Monks have useful work.
