Overview

The Battle of the Frigidus is a Castle Age mission with a 120-population cap. The player is not attacked without provocation, so collect both Relics and build an army for a deliberate offensive against the Western Romans.

Plan and execution

Send a Monk across the river for the nearby Relic early, and secure the second visible near the Eastern Roman base. Both Relics unlock Perfusion, which strengthens the army. Train Spearmen against Arbogast’s Knights, then add Crossbowmen for Throwing Axemen and Long Swordsmen with Battering Rams for the push. Raid the enemy territory to keep pressure away from the Goths and Eastern Romans.

Risks and adaptation

Imperial Age is unavailable and the population cap is low. Avoid unnecessary defenses that trigger attacks; spend the force on counters and keep the allied front safe.
