Overview
The Sack of Rome opens with a coordinated attack on Rome’s eastern gate, followed by a courier objective that must reach Athaulf. Divide the work between the assault force and a safe route for the messenger.
Plan and execution
Use the starting Battering Ram and infantry to breach the east gate while the Gothic force engages the first Legion reinforcement. After the capture phase begins, keep enough troops near the breach to repel the next attack. Send Alaric’s courier on the southern forest route toward Athaulf; it is longer but avoids the densest city patrols. Use cavalry and durable units to screen the courier only when necessary, then regroup both fronts for the remaining objectives.
Risks and adaptation
The courier must survive and city guards watch the direct road. Do not send it through the short route without checking the patrols, and keep the gate force from being pulled away by the messenger task.
