Overview

The Wolf and the Lion rewards a sharp opening with Coustillier charge attacks, then shifts into an economic defense with Relic and mercenary options. Use the first battle to take Île-de-France without wasting the wood needed for Farms.

Plan and execution

Use the Coustilliers’ charge on isolated Écorcheurs and let Monks heal the army between engagements. After the enemy force is cleared, take control of the damaged buildings and new Villagers, but skip unnecessary repairs and spend wood on Farms and key research. Boom behind a protected center while monitoring Bernard d’Armagnac, who can reach Imperial Age and bring Trebuchets. Collect the four Relics or hire the neutral mercenary force if those options make the defense more manageable.

Risks and adaptation

Do not trade the starting army away before the settlement and Villagers arrive. Bernard can advance beyond the other enemies, so keep siege counters and a mobile reserve ready; an economy without a defense will not survive the later push.
