Throwing Axeman backline support
Throwing Axeman: Throwing Axemen deal melee damage from range, letting them support a frontline without occupying the same space as ordinary infantry. They can provide useful ranged pressure when the Frankish Archer line is not the preferred option.

Plan and execution
Place them behind infantry and focus enemy melee units as they approach. Keep the Axemen firing while the frontline holds contact, and reposition if cavalry or ranged counters try to reach them.
Risks and adaptation
They retain infantry vulnerabilities despite their range. Do not send them alone against archers or siege, and use a separate unit to deal with targets that can outrange them.
