Basilica
The Basilica is the Italians’ Church replacement, introduced in Knights of the Mediterranean. It generates 1 Experience per second, receives Home City shipments and queues groups of Papal units as shipments rather than training them in an ordinary unit queue. Its nearby construction-speed effect also benefits land Settlers and Architects.

Function
The Commerce Age building costs 200 Wood and 200 Coin, takes 40 seconds to construct and is limited to one. It queues Italian unit batches as shipments rather than training units in an ordinary queue: seven Papal Guards cost 300 Food, 300 Wood and 300 Coin and arrive in 50 seconds; seven Schiavoni cost the same and arrive in 55 seconds; three Papal Lancers cost the same and arrive in 60 seconds; four Papal Zouaves cost the same and arrive in 60 seconds. Earlier Home City shipments can delay these orders, but a Basilica batch does not require an available shipment card. The Papal Arsenal card reduces Basilica shipment arrival time by 33% and unlocks charged attacks for several Papal units. The Basilica also provides Priests and Spies, receives Home City shipments, generates 1 Experience per second and speeds nearby construction by land Settlers and Architects.
Placement & timing
Build the Basilica when its Experience trickle, Home City access, construction aura or Papal shipment roster fits the Italian plan. Choose a batch before the battle that needs it: each order ties up 900 total resources and takes time to arrive, while population space must be ready when the group reaches the field. Protect the single Basilica and count on its land-unit construction bonus only while it is standing.
Shipment roster, costs and arrival times
The Basilica issues unit groups as shipments rather than through a standard production queue. Its four military batches each cost 300 Food, 300 Wood and 300 Coin: seven Papal Guards arrive in 50 seconds, seven Schiavoni in 55 seconds, three Papal Lancers in 60 seconds and four Papal Zouaves in 60 seconds. Orders wait behind Home City shipments already sent, but do not consume an available shipment card. Papal Arsenal reduces Basilica shipment arrival time by 33%. Prepare population space and a safe rally point before ordering a batch, then choose the group for the matchup: Papal Guards counter Cavalry and protect nearby allies, Schiavoni pressure light infantry, Papal Lancers counter Infantry and support Cavalry, and Papal Zouaves provide durable ranged fire.
Experience and construction support
The Basilica continuously generates 1 Experience per second and improves construction speed for nearby land Settlers and Architects while it remains active. It can also receive Home City shipments and provides access to Priests and Spies. These benefits continue between military deliveries, so the building supports shipment progression and expansion as well as the unique Italian roster. Its 200 Wood and 200 Coin cost, 40-second build time and one-building limit make placement consequential: choose a protected site close enough to help the intended construction area without exposing the only Basilica to an easy siege.
