Research costs 300 Food and 175 Coin and takes 30 seconds. The increase applies to the specified fortification categories; it does not directly add population space to every building. Check which structures in the active rules carry those classifications and whether the extra support is enough to relieve the current cap.

When to research
Research when the army uses Frontier or Heavy Fortifications as part of its base and needs more supported population. The effect is most useful before the army grows beyond the existing support. If the player’s population comes from other buildings, the House of Stuart research may not address the current limit.
Population support depends on fortification type
Castle Houses distinguishes between Frontier and Heavy Fortifications, adding five and ten population support respectively. Identify which category the planned structure belongs to before including its capacity in the army calculation. The technology does not increase the support of ordinary Houses or unrelated buildings. The House of Stuart site and research time are part of the investment, so use it when those specific fortifications are central to the base plan.
