Effect

Research it at the Market in the Fortress Age after Log Flume. The technology costs 240 Food and 480 Coin and improves the gathering work rate from the listed Wood sources. Access is listed for Europeans and Federal Americans, with civilization-specific exceptions; check the selected technology tree before planning the upgrade.

Research condition

Fortress Age; Market; requires Log Flume. 240 Food, 480 Coin; 30 seconds. Eligible civilization access varies.

Research decision

The upgrade has value when many Villagers will keep gathering Wood long enough for the 30% increase to repay its substantial Coin cost. It is less useful if the army needs immediate Coin spending, workers are moving off trees, or the match is nearly over. Include Log Flume's prerequisite and the complete research path in the decision.

What the 30% applies to

Circular Saw improves Wood gathering from trees and Mango Groves. It does not accelerate building construction, increase the stock of a forest or improve gathering from unrelated sources. The gain is realized only while Villagers continue to work eligible Wood sources, so moving the workforce to Coin or Food also ends the practical return from the upgrade.

Count the prerequisite and opportunity cost

The Fortress Age research follows Log Flume and costs 240 Food and 480 Coin. Compare this full investment with the Wood you expect to gather after completion, rather than treating the final research as an isolated purchase. A large chopping workforce and a long remaining need for buildings or units can justify it; a short match or urgent army expense may favor production instead. The Market must be available and safe enough to complete the research.
