Crop Rotation

Crop Rotation is a Commerce Age technology for African civilizations, researched at the Granary. It increases Villager gathering work rate from Fields when those Fields are set to produce Coin by 10%. It costs 300 Wood and takes 30 seconds to research. The effect is source-specific: it does not improve Food gathering from every building or Coin collection at mines and Estates. New World Crops is listed as the next technology in this line.

Effect & research conditions

Research it at the Granary when Villagers are actively gathering Coin from Fields. The upgrade improves the work rate on that particular source; it does not turn other Food or Coin income into Field income. Plan the field allocation and the workers who will use it, then account for the Wood spent before building or training other units.

Research condition

African civilizations; Commerce Age; researched at the Granary; costs 300 Wood; 30-second research time; Villager gathering from Coin-producing Fields +10%; New World Crops follows.

When to research

Take Crop Rotation when a meaningful share of the African economy is assigned to Coin-producing Fields and those workers will continue gathering for long enough to benefit. If the Fields are producing Food, or if the economy relies on another Coin source, the immediate value is lower. Consider New World Crops as the follow-up investment.

Coin production from Fields only

Crop Rotation increases Villager gathering work rate from Fields assigned to produce Coin by 10%. It is an African Granary technology costing 300 Wood and taking 30 seconds. The effect does not improve Coin from Mines or Estates, or Food gathered from a Field set to Food; its return depends on workers actually using Coin-producing Fields.

Choose the Field output deliberately

Fields let the player direct labor toward a chosen resource. Crop Rotation is the Coin-focused upgrade, while Food-focused Field gathering uses its own technology path. Research only after deciding that the economy needs Coin and can keep workers on those Fields; New World Crops follows in the listed Granary progression.
