When to research
Golden Liberty is most useful before a long production period with units that require Coin. Its return grows with repeated purchases, especially if Food and Wood remain plentiful while Coin is scarce. If the planned army uses mostly units without Coin cost, or a fight is imminent, the research may not repay its commitment.
Choose a Coin-heavy production plan
A five-percent reduction is incremental, so it should support a production plan rather than dictate one. Identify the units likely to be trained after researching and consider how many batches the economy can sustain. The technology does not make an expensive unit free and does not change its combat role or population requirement. Securing the House of Vasa settlement is also part of the investment, so protect the Trading Post or Tambo while the army benefits from the discount.
