When to research

Research Grand Encampment when the named units or matchup are relevant: Infantry hit points +25%, but speed -25%. Finish it before the affected force enters combat, and retain resources for counters and reinforcements; this modifier does not remove the units’ other weaknesses. Use the Church for research. Research takes 15 seconds.

Campaign infantry durability trade-off

Grand Encampment is a Church technology for the United States campaign faction in Act III: Steel. It becomes available after the Royal Decree to Claim the New World Home City Card is sent and takes 15 seconds to research. It increases Infantry hit points by 25% while reducing their speed by 25%. The extra durability is paired with a substantial movement penalty.

Use with a deliberate formation

The upgrade suits a plan where Infantry hold a line or protect a fixed objective, since their increased health can make them harder to remove. The lower speed makes pursuit, retreat, and repositioning slower, so do not research it when the mission depends on rapid movement across the map. Keep mobile units available to scout and respond while the slower infantry defend the important ground. This is a campaign-specific choice, not a general United States multiplayer technology.
