Role, availability & values

Use Javanese Spearmen to intercept mounted or shock units that must enter melee range. Their high bonus damage makes them a specialist counter, while the siege attack lets them contribute against buildings once the army controls the area. They can be trained from several land and naval sources, but each source must remain safe and accessible after the Revolution.

Training & availability

Indonesia; Revolution; European Barracks, Fort, Galleon or Wokou Junk; 200 hit points; 5.0 speed; 30% ranged resistance; one population; costs 80 Food; 22-second train time; 13 hand damage; 50 siege damage; bonus vs Cavalry and Shock troops.

Matchup & timing

Produce them when scouting reveals Cavalry or Shock troops and the post-Revolution Indonesian roster can reach the engagement. Their one-population cost makes it possible to field a substantial counter, but ranged units can still punish them on the approach. Support the Spearmen with other unit types rather than relying on them for every matchup.

Post-revolutionary Indonesian counter unit

Javanese Spearman is Indonesian Heavy Infantry unlocked after the Revolution in Definitive Edition. It can be trained at a European Barracks, Fort, Galleon or Wokou Junk, giving Indonesia several ways to reinforce on land or from water. The unit costs 80 Food, uses one population and takes 22 seconds to train. It has 200 hit points, 30% ranged resistance, speed 5.0 and line of sight 12. The hand attack deals 13 damage every 1.5 seconds, with a 5× bonus against Cavalry and 3.5× against Shock troops. Its 50-damage siege attack can contribute against buildings once the area is secure. These multipliers make the Spearman a specialist melee answer to mounted units, not an all-purpose infantry line: ranged units can damage it before it reaches contact, and its role does not cover every opposing unit. Use scouting to identify cavalry or shock pressure, then add Spearmen to intercept those units while other Indonesian troops handle ranged and infantry matchups. After a Revolution, its multiple production sources can simplify reinforcement, but the naval options require a safe Dock and the land options a protected route. Keep the force together and avoid sending the Spearmen ahead without support.

Countering cavalry safely

The fivefold Cavalry bonus makes the Spearman dangerous after it reaches melee range, while its 30% ranged resistance helps on the approach. Keep it behind units that can draw fire or disrupt ranged opponents, and use its speed to intercept rather than chase far from support.

Production after the Revolution

The Barracks and Fort provide land production, while the Galleon and Wokou Junk give naval reinforcement options where those units are accessible. Protect each source and rally the Spearmen into a group so the cavalry counter can arrive together.

Role within the Indonesian army

The unit’s 5.0 movement speed lets it respond to a cavalry threat, but its melee bonus only applies after it reaches the target. Use the 30% ranged resistance to help it close, and pair it with ranged or heavy infantry that can handle enemies it does not counter.

Indonesian revolutionary anti-cavalry unit

The Javanese Spearman is Heavy infantry for Indonesia after the Revolution in Definitive Edition. Its 13-damage hand attack carries strong bonuses against Cavalry and Shock troops, while 30% ranged resistance and 200 hit points give it durability on the approach. At five speed it can keep pace with an army, and its 50-damage siege attack can contribute once the force controls the area. Use the Spearman to intercept mounted threats and protect ranged units or artillery; do not expect it to handle every infantry matchup by itself.

Production and post-revolution timing

European Barracks, Forts, Galleons and Wokou Junks are listed production routes. Each Javanese Spearman costs 80 Food, uses one population and trains in 22 seconds, making it possible to establish a sizable anti-cavalry line if the economy can sustain it. The Revolution changes the available nation and production choices, so confirm which buildings remain accessible before committing. Ranged units can still punish Spearmen on the way in; combine them with other infantry or artillery and avoid charging unsupported into a prepared position.
