When to research
Choose it when the army needs a ranged cavalry counter and the shipment replacement fits the deck plan. Check which Oprichnik cards will change before sending them.
Reformist Tsar shipment conversion
With the Reformist Tsar card, the Industrial Age Church research costs 2,000 Coin and takes 15 seconds. It sends 23 Counter Jaegers (Schiavoni), with a 1.5 multiplier against Light Ranged Cavalry, and changes Oprichnik Home City shipments into Counter Jaegers. Earlier updates used Bashkir Ponies and a different unit count. Check the current version before including it in a shipment plan.
Industrial Age Counter Jaegers and shipment conversion
With the Reformist Tsar Home City Card, this Russian Industrial Age Church research costs 2,000 Coin and takes 15 seconds. It delivers 23 Counter Jaegers, also identified as Schiavoni, with a 1.5 damage multiplier against Light Ranged Cavalry. It also changes Home City shipments that would deliver Oprichniks into Counter Jaegers. Review the deck before researching: the unit delivery and the change to later cards both affect the army plan.
Version history and tactical role
Before update 14.43676, the technology was called Bashkir Ponies and delivered 17 Bashkirs. That older name and unit count should not be mixed with the current Definitive Edition profile. The current Counter Jaegers are intended to answer Light Ranged Cavalry; the bonus does not make them a universal counter to every mounted unit. Use the research when that enemy composition is relevant and protect the ranged cavalry as it joins the army.
