Lighthouse

Lighthouse is a capturable map building introduced with The Baltic Powers for Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition. Its purpose is to help players spot maritime activity around the map. It is a map-control objective rather than an ordinary structure that Villagers add to a standard civilization build order.

Map function

A Lighthouse provides a strategic observation point over nearby water. Use the information it reveals to check for ships and activity along the coast, then relate that sighting to likely landing approaches, fishing areas or routes between shorelines. Its presence is map-dependent, so the name of the expansion alone does not guarantee that a Lighthouse appears in every match.

Scouting & control

Capture and hold a Lighthouse when its vision can inform an immediate naval or coastal decision. It is most useful before committing ships, choosing a landing route or leaving an exposed water economy unguarded. Because the building is capturable, map control around it matters: inspect the approach, clear any threat shown by the match and avoid leaving the objective unsupported if an opponent can contest it.

Vision is the strategic resource

The Lighthouse helps reveal maritime life, giving its owner information that is difficult to obtain from the shoreline alone. Check the water before moving a fleet or sending transports toward a landing. A sighting can change whether a route is safe, whether a fishing area needs support and where the enemy may be preparing to approach.

Treat placement as match-specific

Lighthouses are capturable map features, not a universal building in every civilization’s construction menu. Their location and relevance depend on the selected map. Scout the coastline and use the sight line where it answers a concrete question; an isolated objective far from the active water routes may not justify pulling the army away from the main front.

Do not confuse the map building with Somali Lighthouses

The capturable Lighthouse in The Baltic Powers is a map object. Somali Lighthouses is a separate Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition technology from The African Royals. That technology adds 10 Line of Sight to its listed structures and enables a temporary reveal ability at Trading Posts and Tambos on Somali kingdoms; the ability reveals enemy fortifications, Trading Posts, Docks and naval units. It does not turn this capturable Arctic map building into a Somali structure or give every Lighthouse the technology’s active ability. Check the article and mode before applying either set of rules.
