Schützenfest
Schützenfest is a Fortress Age technology introduced in Definitive Edition — Knights of the Mediterranean. Researched at a Trading Post, or at a Tambo for the Inca, on a House of Wittelsbach palace, it improves the sight and ranged reach of Light Infantry and gives Mountain Troopers a larger bonus.

Effect & research conditions

Mountain Troopers instead gain +3 to both Line of Sight and ranged attack range in total. The larger Mountain Trooper bonus includes the standard Light Infantry increase plus two additional points.
Research condition
Available from the Fortress Age. Research it at Trading Post or Tambo (Inca only).
When to research
Research it when Light Infantry or Mountain Troopers are an important part of the army and the added reach can affect scouting or firing positions. Mountain Troopers receive the stronger benefit, making them the clearest reason to pay the cost. It does not add hit points, damage or firing speed, so retain a screen against cavalry and other units that can close the distance.
Range by unit type
Schützenfest is a Fortress Age technology that costs 250 Wood and 250 Coin and takes 30 seconds. It can be researched at a Trading Post, or at a Tambo for the Inca, on a House of Wittelsbach palace. Light Infantry gain one Line of Sight and one ranged attack range. Mountain Troopers receive a total increase of three for both values, two more than the standard Light Infantry effect.
Using the extra reach
The added range lets eligible units begin firing or spot targets from farther away, which can help them trade while staying behind a screen. Mountain Troopers are the main beneficiaries, so consider the technology when they are a planned part of the army. Range does not improve hit points, firing rate, or damage; keep the units protected from cavalry and artillery and use the additional sight to scout approaches rather than moving them alone.
