Integrated suppressor and damage tradeoff

The MP5-SD is an automatic SMG available to both teams and occupies the same loadout choice as the MP7. Its suppressor is integrated into the weapon and cannot be removed. The Wiki describes its firing sound as quieter than the MP7’s and gives a maximum audible distance of 1,000 units, which can make a shot less revealing across a distant lane. Suppression does not make firing silent: nearby opponents can still hear it, and muzzle effects or hit information can still reveal an engagement.

The January 21, 2026 CS2 adjustment slightly increased damage, slightly reduced damage falloff and lowered the price by $100. The listed CS2 base damage is 27 at a $1,400 buy price. That remains a modest per-shot profile for an SMG, so sustained fire and close-to-medium range matter. Its 30-round magazine gives enough capacity for a short trade, but does not offer the long spray reserve of the P90 or PP-Bizon. Use controlled bursts at distance and preserve a full spray for a close entry.

Reload planning and team use

The MP5-SD holds 30 rounds, has 90 reserve rounds in the listed CS2 record, and reloads in about three seconds. The March 18, 2026 CS2 ammunition update changed magazine-fed reloads: reloading discards the rounds left in the current magazine and replaces it with a full magazine taken from reserve. The HUD displays magazine-based reserve and the current fill level. Avoid topping up after every small burst; move behind cover and decide whether the remaining magazine can finish the next duel before discarding it.

At 235 units per second, the MP5-SD supports quick movement between close positions. Its lower damage can make aggressive spray-downs less effective than the MP7’s direct firepower, while the suppressor can help a team take a less obvious follow-up angle. Coordinate it with a Smoke Grenade or Flashbang when crossing a defended lane. Compare the MP7 for a stronger direct engagement, or the MP9 for the Counter-Terrorist close-range SMG choice. The $600 Competitive kill reward can support an economical round but does not erase the need to buy armor and team utility.

CS2 version and availability

The MP5-SD is a successor to the MP5 used in earlier Counter-Strike titles, not the same weapon carried unchanged into CS2. The integrated suppressor and current roster role belong to the MP5-SD entry. It was added to the Counter-Strike item roster on August 15, 2018 and can be selected in the MP7 loadout slot. Its availability in CS2 applies to both Terrorists and Counter-Terrorists.

The January 21, 2026 changes are the specific CS2 damage, falloff and cost update recorded for the weapon. Earlier Global Offensive hitbox tables and old MP5 statistics are excluded from the CS2 specification table. Check the Buy Menu and Economy when comparing the MP5-SD’s modest cost with rifles or other SMGs.

Weapon appearance update (June 15, 2023)

The June 15, 2023 Limited Test notes listed visual improvements to the MP5-SD. They do not describe the exact model change or any effect on damage, sound, suppressor behavior or handling.

Reload-event timing (June 8, 2023)

The June 8, 2023 Limited Test update aligned the MP5-SD reload event with the moment the magazine was fully inserted. The note is about matching an animation event to the visible reload state, not a documented change to reload speed or ammunition.
