Damage, recoil and range

The MP7’s CS2 record lists 30 base damage, 750 rounds per minute, a 30-round magazine and 90 rounds in reserve. The hitbox table records 115 head damage without armor and 71 with armor; the abdomen and pelvis take 35 or 22, chest and arms 28 or 17, and legs 21. The weapon has relatively controllable recoil and spread for an SMG, including while moving, but damage falloff and limited armor penetration reduce its usefulness in a long rifle duel.

At close range, a controlled spray aimed around the head or upper chest can use its rapid automatic fire. At close-to-medium range, bursts make recoil easier to manage; at longer range, tap rather than hold the trigger. The source warns that a player should disengage from an AWP sightline unless a flash, smoke or flank creates a safer approach. A Desert Eagle can provide a sidearm option for a longer follow-up distance.

Recent CS2 changes

A January 21, 2026 CS2 update slightly increased MP7 damage, slightly reduced damage falloff and reduced its price by $100. The current $1,400 price and 30-damage weapon record reflect the updated CS2 entry; the earlier $1,500 value was the previous price and should not be presented as current.

A January 28, 2025 update reduced crouching accuracy for the MP7, MP5-SD and MP9. The March 18, 2026 magazine refactor also applies: a completed reload discards the rounds remaining in the current magazine and takes a full one from reserve. The 3.1-second reload is a meaningful cost, so use cover and track the remaining rounds.

Team and loadout choice

Both teams can purchase the MP7. It is a moderately priced SMG for a player who wants controlled moving fire, but it is heavy for its class and reloads more slowly than fast-entry SMGs. The P90 provides a larger magazine at a higher cost; the MP9 and MAC-10 move faster and have different team restrictions. The MP5-SD offers a suppressed alternative. These are distinct loadout choices rather than interchangeable skins or weapon finishes.

Choose the MP7 when the team can use its steadier burst handling and still afford armor or utility. Its SMG kill reward supports an economy round, but the weapon’s reach does not make it a full rifle substitute. See Buy Menu, Economy, MP9, MAC-10, P90 and MP5-SD.
