Minecraft Dungeons II FAQ

Quick answers to the questions players ask most about Minecraft Dungeons II — release, price, platforms, DLC, co-op, and more. For the full treatment of any topic, follow the links to the dedicated pages.
Is it out?
Yes. Minecraft Dungeons II launched on September 29, 2026, worldwide and on every platform at once: PC (Steam and Microsoft Store), Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and Switch 2. There was no staggered rollout and no early-unlock tier. Game Pass subscribers could play from launch day. See Minecraft Dungeons II Release Date for the announcement timeline.
Is it Minecraft 2?
No. There is no Minecraft 2. Dungeons II is the sequel to Minecraft Dungeons (2020) — a separate dungeon crawler product line inside the Minecraft franchise, developed by Mojang Studios with Double Eleven — not a new version of the sandbox game itself. For the franchise rundown, see What Is Minecraft Dungeons?.
What was Project Spicewood?
Project Spicewood was the internal codename the project leaked under in March 2025. Mojang revealed the real title, Minecraft Dungeons II, in March 2026. Nothing in the game itself is called Spicewood — and it is not the name of the new dimension either; that dimension is The Sift.
How much does it cost?
Standard is $29.99 and Deluxe is $49.99, and the full game is included with Game Pass from day one. Deluxe adds the soul cape, the Blub pet, four hero skins, and both dated DLC packs — nothing in the base campaign is locked behind the pricier edition. See Minecraft Dungeons II Price and Minecraft Dungeons II Editions.
Is it free?
No. There is no free version and no trial. Search results promising a free download are unofficial and unsafe — steer clear of them. The closest thing to free is the day-one Game Pass inclusion.
Is there a Mac or mobile version?
No. There is no Mac version, no mobile version (no iOS, no Android), and nothing has been announced for either. The platforms page lists the five platforms that exist; Mac and mobile are not among them. For the complete list, see Minecraft Dungeons II Platforms.
What about the Switch version?
Both Switch generations are covered: Switch and Switch 2 both appear in the official platform list. The Hong Kong eShop page surfaces the Switch 2 listing most prominently, while the wider platform list confirms the original Switch too. It is the same game on both.
How many players does it support?
Up to four. You can play solo, couch co-op on one screen, online across platforms with crossplay, or a mixed setup — part of the party on one console or PC while friends join online. Matchmaking finds groups, and party codes let a specific group connect directly. The entire campaign works in any of these modes. See Minecraft Dungeons II Multiplayer Guide for the details.
Do I need to play the first game?
No. The opening act re-establishes the story — the Squid Coast camp attack and the flight to Brave Haven — and the gameplay systems (equipment, Minecraft Dungeons II Enchanting Guide, artifacts) have been rebuilt from scratch. Veterans will recognize the setting; newcomers are not lost. For how the two games connect, see Minecraft Dungeons Series Background: From 2020 to Dungeons II.
How long is the campaign?
Unknown. Mojang has published no official playtime figure, so any specific number you see quoted is a guess. The main quest pushes through the Overworld and The Sift with side quests along the way, but nobody has put a clock on it yet.
How much DLC is there?
Two packs are committed: DLC 1 is planned for winter 2026 and DLC 2 for spring 2027, and both are included in the Deluxe edition. Beyond that, the total count depends on performance — if the game and DLC sell and play well, Mojang makes more; otherwise it stops at two. See Minecraft Dungeons II DLC.
Is the first game still getting updates?
The first game's support wound down as the sequel approached — it shipped its six DLC packs between 2020 and 2022. Dungeons II is the product line Mojang now supports, with two DLC packs already dated. No post-launch update schedule beyond those packs has been published.
Is the Sniffer in The Sift?
Mojang would neither confirm nor deny this on the launch stream. Treat any claim about a Sniffer connection to The Sift as rumor until an official source says otherwise.
What are the PC requirements?
The reported minimum is an Intel Core i3-8100 (or AMD Ryzen 3 2200G) with a GTX 1050 (or AMD RX 560) and 8 GB of RAM. Caveat: these figures come from press coverage of the launch build, not a first-party page — the full table and its caveats live on the Minecraft Dungeons II PC Requirements page.
How many achievements are there?
Thirty-two at launch: 14 hidden story achievements, 5 boss achievements, and 13 open progression achievements, all with documented unlock conditions. Gamerscore and trophy values have not been published. The two dated DLC packs may add more lists later. For the full list, see the achievements page.
